What to Expect When a Cut Needs Care

A cut may need to be closed if it:
Stitches work well for most cuts and for areas where appearance matters, like the face. Staples are fast and strong, so they are often used on the scalp. Skin glue can close small, clean cuts without needles.
Cuts are best closed within several hours of the injury to lower the risk of infection. Clean the wound with water, apply pressure and come in as soon as you can.
